Public Good
TQA Australia's commitment to supporting the local community is emphasised in our current Strategic Plan, with a major commitment to public good in agricultural communities.
As a not for profit organisation, it is this commitment to public good that sets us apart from a regular consultancy. We demonstrate this through activities such as:
- Initiation of the Global Insights Award, which recognises and rewards Australian primary producers who excel in environmental assurance, quality assurance and/or food safety
- Development and free access to the TQA Quality Mark and Certificates of Assurance signed by the Tasmanian Premier and displayed in international supermarkets to promote Tasmanian products
- Free advice to producers struggling with management systems
- Championing and researching issues resulting in, for example, development of the “Guidelines for on farm food safety for fresh produce” a nationally endorsed publication providing guidance for primary producers, auditors, retailers and advisors
- Involvement in national and state based working groups and committees, representing the concerns and interests of primary producers
- Numerous presentations on the basics of quality and environmental assurance to help growers manage system and paperwork requirements
- Development of industry specific systems, at no cost to industry. Systems developed to date include those for honey producers, oyster growers and dairy businesses
